On Wednesday 17th of December Hollands Handelen was present at the opening ceremony of the Christmas campaign for the Sophia Children’s hospital.

The purpose of this campaign is to sell as many Christmas lights possible to raise money for scientific research. Hollands Handelen took care of the promotion of this campaign, by designing a mailing containing a leaflet, an envelope, a letter and a A0 poster. The poster can be seen at different places in Rotterdam.

The foundation Friends of the Sophia Children’s hospital has been arranging this Christmas campaign for years. The campaign consist of placing a 25 meter tall Christmas tree on the square in front of the hospital. For every five euro donation, the foundation lights up a Christmas light in the tree and the rest of the donation will be given to support children’s medical science.

A festive opening with Frans Bauer

The opening ceremony for the campaign took place last Wednesday. Especially for the ceremony the hospital was temporarily transformed into a concert hall, so that Frans Bauer (a famous Dutch singer) could perform. After the mini concert the children had the opportunity to ask Frans several (rather personal) questions, which he gladly answered.

Beautifully lit

After the concert the first lights in the Christmas tree were lit by Ivo Opstelten (mayor of Rotterdam) and a couple of patients. With one push on the button the tree was beautifully lit. A part of the money earned by selling the lights, is used for buying a virtual reality trainer. This program helps young surgeons to get familiar with surgery using minimal invasive methods.
